Weekly Update - September 18, 2026

Molly Brant Update:

We’re wrapping up another wonderful week of learning and are grateful to share that Molly Brant will remain at 19 classes this year. This means we only need to make a few minimal class changes to help balance student numbers across the school. It’s also exciting to see so many extracurriculars underway—soccer, cross-country running, eco-club and choir have all started, giving our students great opportunities to connect, grow, and shine beyond the classroom.

Numerous forms have been, and will be, sent home - PLEASE SEND THESE BACK ASAP- these include data verification forms which lets us know who can and can't pick up your child, as well as emergency contact information. There is also a form about how your child gets home - this is important for us to know.

Molly Brant Open House, BBQ & Book Fair - Thursday, October 1

We’re excited to welcome our Molly Brant families to our Open House on October 1 from 4:00–5:00 p.m. to meet your child’s teacher and visit their classroom. Stay and enjoy our Scholastic Book Fair and Welcome Back BBQ from 4:00–6:00 p.m., with hamburgers and hot dogs for $2 and drinks for $1. We can’t wait to see you and celebrate the start of a wonderful school year together!

Volunteering at Molly Brant

If you are interested in volunteering at our school this year, please ensure that your Vulnerable Sector Check was completed within 6 months of the date you start volunteering.

A new process in place in Limestone District School Board. Once you have your police record check back, you must submit it to Police Record Check Portal. Once it is submitted you will be able to volunteer at the school.

We know it is time consuming, but safety is our first priority.

School Parking Lot

The school parking lot is CLOSED to families between 8:00 and 8:30 am and 2:15 and 3 pm.

As the weather changes, more families may choose to drive to and from school. Please remember that stopping in school bus loading zones or no-stopping areas can result in high parking fines. We encourage families to respect posted signage and use alternative locations for pick-up and drop-off.

Student Accident Insurance

The Limestone District School Board requires that students have student accident insurance in order to participate in extra-curricular activities. Before students will be allowed to participate in these events, parents/guardians must confirm their own coverage for items not covered under the Provincial Health Plan, or purchase an insurance plan.

Each year a Student Accident Insurance Plan is made available to all students on a voluntary basis. The plan provides protection for dental damage due to accidents, fracture benefits and other important coverage, which are not covered under the Provincial Health Plan. Some parents may have dental plan coverage through their workplace but many of these plans are limited in one way or another, while this accident coverage is not. You should compare plans to make sure you have the coverage you need or desire.

In making this plan available, the Board wishes to make its position clear in the matter of insurance. Under the Education Act, the Board is not permitted to provide insurance coverage for accidents to pupils, therefore, the Board recommends consideration of this plan to any parent who wishes to obtain this kind of insurance. Although the policy has all the advantages of a group plan, it is essentially a direct contract between the parent and the insurance company.

A family plan is also available for three or more students which permits the enrolment of students in the family who are attending schools outside the jurisdiction of this Board as long as at least one child in the family is attending a school within the Limestone District School Board.

If you wish to subscribe to this insurance, you may do so by completing the form handed out to students the first week of school and mailing it directly to Reliable Life Insurance Company in the stamped envelope provided. School Council Update

We had our first meeting and the following positions on Council were elected:

Secretary: Erin Parker

Member at Large: Brieanna McEathron

We still have a number of open positions and would love to welcome any guardians who are interested in getting involved in our school community.

There are lots of exciting events being planned this year, including our BOO BASH on October 22 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. If you'd like to join School Council, it's not too late—we'd love to have you!

Our next meeting is Tuesday, October 13 @ 5:30 pm.

Cell Phones, Smartwatches & Bluetooth headphones:

Students will not be permitted to have their cell phones, smartwatches and/or Bluetooth headphones while in class, unless directed by the teacher - in order to help them fully concentrate on their school work and interact with their friends in person. We have Chromebooks for students to use for school tasks.

If you need to reach your child during the day, please contact the main office: 613-549-4003. We encourage parents to add parental controls to their child’s phone to restrict unnecessary apps/notifications that might lead to distraction. Thank you for helping your child adjust to this expectation.

Human Development and Sexual Health

As part of LDSB's commitment to ongoing transparency and communication with families, please follow the link to Form 325-D on the LDSB website. It outlines the Human Development and Sexual Health curriculum expectations for Grades 1-8.  Families can request to have their child or children exempted from instruction related to Human Development and Sexual Health expectations by completing and returning an exemption form for each child (Form 325-B) five school days before the start of instruction. Prior to instruction, your child's classroom teacher will inform parents/guardians when the expectations related to the Human Development and Sexual Health expectations in Strand D will be covered. For a more detailed overview of this process, please refer to Administrative Procedure 325: Exemption From Human Development and Sexual Health Instruction (listed under the Policies and Procedures section of the LDSB website), or contact the school.

Peanut, tree nut, and scent free

Students should not bring peanuts or tree nuts to school. While perfumes/colognes are on trend, they should be reserved for outside of school as they induce allergic reactions in some staff and students.

Please label personal items:

To avoid your student's clothing ending up in the lost and found, please consider labelling items, such as indoor and outdoor clothing, indoor and outdoor shoes, containers, school supplies, etc.

End of Day Dismissal Changes for Students

To help us manage the busy start and end of the school day, please let your child’s teacher know in advance about any changes to their regular routine by note or email.

For unexpected changes, please contact the office before 1:30 p.m. so we can ensure the information is shared with your child’s classroom. After 1:30, it may be difficult to get your child to the office in a timely manner.

Pick-Ups During Recess/Nutrition Breaks

If you are picking up your child during 10:20–11:00 a.m. or 12:40–1:20 p.m., please send a note or email to your child’s teacher in advance. This ensures your child knows to come to the office.

Please do not pick up your child directly from the yard. All student pick-ups must be coordinated through the office so attendance can be properly tracked.

Drop Off

Students can be dropped off, on the yard, at 8:05 am. Students cannot be dropped of before 8:05 because there is no supervision and students cannot be unattended.

Dismissal

When the bell rings at 2:40 p.m., walkers will be dismissed from their class meeting spot/kinder gate and staff will release students to parents/guardians as they see them. Please ensure your child makes eye contact with or waves to their educator before leaving.

Students who ride busses will be taken to their bus and attendance will be taken before the bus leaves the school parking lot.

Visitors

All visitors must buzz at the side entrance (Left hand side of the front door) and sign in at the main office. Please note all volunteers require a CPIC with vulnerable sector check.
