December Newsletter

Congratulations All Around!  We always have a lot to be proud of at Molly Brant and these past weeks have been no exception!

Santa Clause Parade

If you attended the Santa Clause Parade, you likely saw the Molly Brant float.  This spectacular float was the work of the Parent Council and some talented banner makers from Ms. Parson’s class, and featured Mrs. Wagar and the Molly Brant choir.  Many students and families walked with the float, cheering on our amazing choir and showing their school spirit.  The tremendous effort of the Parent Council and the students was noticed by the judges.  Molly Brant is the proud winner of the “Best Community Float” award.  Everyone who was involved in the float, including those who walked with the float, are invited to join us for the December Spirit Assembly on December 12 at 10:50, when we will celebrate this amazing recognition by the Greater Kingston Community.   Way to go Thunder!!

Co-Ed Volleyball

The Co-Ed Volleyball team, with the support of coaches Ms. Overvelde and Mme Shelley, demonstrated great skill and sportsmanship at the season-end tournament.  The dedicated group of students have worked hard to build up their skills and ability to work as a team.  After some amazing games, this great team finished as the tournament champions.  Way to go Thunder!!

Roofing Update:  Work on the roof at the new high school is expected to take approximately two more weeks.  This work is weather dependent and on days when roofing work is not expected to take place, we will endeavour to share this information on Twitter, as early in the morning as possible, usually between 7:30-8:00.  Adjustments have been made to the ventilation system at Molly Brant to reduce the impact of the fumes, but we recognize that some students may continue to be impacted by the smell.  The Ministry of Labour has visited the work site and determined that all products are being used in accordance with health and safety guidelines.  At Molly Brant we will do everything we can to support students who are affected.  If you have any questions or wish to discuss supports for your child/children, please contact the school.

Bake Sale: On Wednesday, December 5 (in the morning) students are invited to visit a bake sale that will raise money for the United Way.  Staff will be providing a variety of baked goods and the students in Ms. Jolliffe’s class will run the sale.  Items will be $0.50 each and in order to ensure that there are enough treats for everyone who wishes to purchase one, students may be limited to one treat.

School Council:

The December Parent Council meeting and pot-luck dinner will take place on Wednesday, December 5 from 6:00-7:00.  All Council meetings are open to everyone to attend and there are different sub-committees that are always looking for volunteers.  Free child care is provided during the meeting.

At the December Parent Council meeting, an election will take place for the position of treasurer.  Nominations will be taken from the floor just prior to the election.  We would like to thank Vicki Barriage for all of her work with the Council, and specifically for fulfilling the role of treasurer up to this point.

A big thank you to all of the organizers and vendors who participated in the Craft Sale on November 23rd.  The event was well attended and funds raised go directly back to supporting initiatives for students in our school.

Pancake Brunch and PJ Day:

Once again this year, our dedicated Parent Council will be providing a pancake brunch for all students.  On Wednesday, December 19th, students are invited to wear their PJs and enjoy a warm breakfast at school.  If you are available to help make pancakes on December 19th, please contact Jennifer Kehoe or the school.

Jingle Bell Walk: On Friday, December 7 students will be participating in the Jingle Bell Walk.  Weather permitting, as an entire school we will walk around the neighbourhood (some younger students may walk on the kindergarten yard).  Students are asked to bring in a non-perishable food item that will be donated to the Food Bank.  Following the Jingle Bell Walk, classes are invited to the gym to participate in a holiday sing-song.

Holiday Sing-Songs: During the month of December, classes will be invited to participate in holiday sing-songs in the gym.  Families are welcome to join us.  Please see the calendar for dates and times.

Head Lice

Did you know that your doctor can write a prescription for head lice medication treatment?  With this prescription, the treatment will be paid for under your child’s OHIP+ card.  If you need additional help, the pharmacists at Med + Pharmacy at 277 Bath Road can identify if your child has head lice and recommend the right treatment.  No appointment is necessary.

The last day of classes before the break is Friday, December 21st.  Classes start again on Monday, January 7th 2019.

Parents and educators are partners when it comes to educating children, and your child’s teacher is here to help. If you have any questions about your child’s learning needs, please speak to your child’s teacher.
